About This Course

Behaviour modification is an approach to modifying negative behaviour into positive behaviour. According to B.F Skinner, a behaviour can be shaped through reinforcement and/or punishment. This course is conducted in bilingual (English and Malay language) to discuss ways to modify behaviour in young children. There are three main factors to consider while modifying behaviour: managing the antecedents, the behaviour and the consequences. This course is divided into 11 parts to discuss further the factors in modifying behaviour.

Factor 1: Managing the Antecedents – 15 ways of managing the antecedents of behaviour

Part 1 – Managing Antecedents: Discriminate Learning

Part 2 – Managing Antecedents: Prompting, Fading and Modelling

Part 3 – Managing Antecedents: Instructions, self-instruction and Altering Antecedent Chains

Part 4 – Managing Antecedents: Reducing or Avoiding Antecedents, Narrowing Antecedents Control and Negative Self-Instruction

Part 5 – Managing Antecedents: Systematic Desensitization, Participating Modelling and Self-Statements

Part 6 – Managing Antecedents: Thought-Stopping and Distractions

 

Factor 2: Managing the Behaviour – 8 ways of managing the behaviour

Part 7- Managing Behavior: Subgoals, Shaping and Shortcuts to Shaping

Part 8 – Managing Behavior: Chaining, Alternative Responses and Counter Conditioning

Part 9 – Managing Behavior: Relaxation Techniques and Covert Conditioning

 

Factor 3: Managing the Consequences – 6 ways to manage the consequences

Part 10 – Managing the Consequences: Positive Reinforcement, Feedback, Biofeedback, Tokens and Covert Reinforces

Part 11 – Managing the Consequences: Punishments
